Overview

This five-day course is designed primarily for information technology (IT) professionals who have some experience with Windows Server. It is designed for professionals who will be responsible for managing storage and compute by using Windows Server 2025, and who need to understand the scenarios, requirements, and storage and compute options that are available and applicable to Windows Server 2025.

Much of the course is based on configuration using the new Windows Admin Centre and Windows PowerShell.

Prerequisites

Participants should have:

  • A basic understanding of networking fundamentals.
  • An awareness and understanding of security best practices.
  • A basic understanding of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of server hardware.
  • Experience supporting and configuring Windows client operating systems, such as Windows 8, Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Target Audience

This course is intended for IT professionals who have some experience working with Windows Server, and who are looking for a single five-day course that covers storage and compute technologies in Windows Server 2025. This course will help them update their knowledge and skills related to storage and compute services for Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022.

Candidates suitable for this course would be:

  • Windows Server administrators who are relatively new to Windows Server administration and related technologies, and who want to learn more about the storage and compute features in Windows Server 2025. This course is also suitable for understanding Windows Server 2012 R2 and later.
  • IT professionals with general IT knowledge, and who are looking to gain knowledge about Windows Server, especially around storage and compute technologies in Windows Server 2025. This course is also suitable for understanding Windows Server 2012 R2 and later.

Course Outline

Module 1 Installing and Configuring Windows Server

This module describes the new features of Windows Server, and explains how to prepare for and install Windows Server, including Server Core.

“Implement Hybrid Integration” describes Implementing hybrid integration with Azure Arc which involves extending Azure's management and governance capabilities to on-premises, edge, and multi-cloud environments.

“Upgrading and Migrating to Windows Server” describes how to plan a server upgrade and migration strategy, and explains how to perform a migration of server roles and workloads within and across domains.

Module 2 Storage Services

This module explains how to manage disks and volumes in Windows Server 2022, different classifications of RAID and configuring Server Message Block (SMB). This module also introduces SMB over QUIC for secure file sharing.

Module 3 Storage Migration and Software-Defined Storage

This module explains how to implement the storage migration services and cutover data to new servers without interruption. manage disks and volumes in Windows Server. It also explains how to implement and manage Storage Spaces and how to implement Data Deduplication. This module also covers how to implement Storage Migration Service and Storage Replica in Windows Server.

Module 4 Hyper-V Virtualisation

This module provides an overview of Hyper-V and virtualization. It explains how to install Hyper-V, and how to configure storage and networking on Hyper-V host servers. Additionally, it explains how to configure and manage Hyper-V virtual machines for both Windows and Linux operating system using WSL.

Module 5 Windows Server Failover Clustering

This module explains how to plan for failover clustering. It also explains how to create, manage, and troubleshoot a failover cluster. Additionally, it explains how to implement high availability and stretch clustering for a site.

Module 6 Failover clustering with Hyper-V

This module describes how Hyper-V integrates with failover clustering. It also explains how to implement Hyper-V virtual machines in failover clusters. Additionally, it describes the key features for virtual machines in a clustered environment.

Exams and Assessments

There are no formal exams included in this course. Participants will complete interactive labs and knowledge checks to reinforce learning outcomes.
